Doctors Fail to Follow Recommended Guidelines Almost Half the Time

RAND Institute Study - Failure to Follow Guidelines Poses "Serious Threat" to Health

A RAND Institute study published in the June 26, 2003 New England Journal of Medicine states that physicians' failure to follow recommended guidelines poses a "serious threat" to the health of Americans. According to the study, participants received only 54.9% of recommended care (54.9% of recommended preventive care, 53.5% of recommended acute care, and 56.1% of recommended chronic care).
